Gardenia Cottage

Article By Shorty

I flew in to Houston via Southwest airlines to Hobby Airport. Then my buddy Tim picked me up and we headed to Palacios first. Stopped at the mexican restaurant, kinda dissapointed that they jacked up the price of my favorite shrimp dish to $15, and they overcooked the shrimp. Thats OK, ever since I started coming here, I have been trying to replicate it as home and I think I have it, so I might start trying other restuarants in the area.

We finished our dinner and Tim mentioned that he forgot to bring a few items. Not to fear, Port Lavaca has a Walmart !! (which is right next to Magnolia Beach). We stopped and picked up the final bits of provisions, and a few extras we didn't need like M&M's, some Star Wars characters for my wife that aren't available back in Phoenix yet, and other stuff.

Got to Magnolia Beach and checked into Gardenia Cottage, I stayed at Eagle's Nest last year but it was booked this year.

Right across the street was a beautiful little sunfish, turned over on her trailer and covered in the Texas sailboat patina.

Here are some of my redneck panoramic view photos of the inside of Gardenia. There is such a huge difference between staying at a cottage like this, and a hotel. The cottage is rather like staying at a friends house - not only does it have all of the functions of a house like washing machine, stove, frig, but they stock it with all the creature comforts like coffee, dishes, and all the other stuff.

Here is an extra little surprise...

They closed in the back porch and turned it into another living room / bedroom. My family used to have big reunions about once every 4 years, and this would be a great spot for doing reunions like that.
